My recent project is quite unusual because I had to make a website for a customer that sells Poop in a bag. To be more specific it is cow and horse poop. I almost didn’t take the project because I was like what-the-hay? I did some research and I found this product to be very profitable in the Gardening niche market.

Let me explain my project: My client is in the garden niche and she sells a water conditioner fertilizer, which is basically cow and horse (poop) in a tea bag packaging. You brew the “tea bag” in water, leave it alone for 2 days, and then voila! It makes a wonderful, natural fertilizer to water your plants with. There are several clients that swear by it’s effectiveness and acceleration of their plant life. Each year she has doubled her sales by selling Manure in a tea bag! Why? Because she had a great idea that works. Gardeners around the world confirm this product works from it’s all-natural process and great results. Let me show you why this site was successful in a short amount of time.
Steps to a Successful Website Niche
1. You need a Great Idea
Who would have thought you can sell Poop in a tea bag and people would stand in line to purchase it. This project all started from a great idea and a product that works. So start to think of your next great idea.
2. Proper Domain Name
It is very important to pick the proper domain name. I can’t stress this enough. Use a keyword within your domain name.
3. Use a Good Theme
I normally always use Thesis because in my opinion it is the best theme around, but my client started her website using Genesis which sounds like a complete knock-off of Thesis, but all-in-all they both have good SEO capabilities. So, remember to have a good theme before you start any blog. I would have switched to Thesis when I came on board, but Genesis was already a decent platform.
4. Picking a Good WordPress Shopping Cart
I needed to integrate a shopping cart to this website and since I was using WordPress I went with WP e-Commerce which is an unbelievable plugin. There is a bit of a learning curve but all-in-all it is a great plugin with a lot of features within the free version. I used the free version and everything worked great, but if you really want to pimp out your site you can go with the gold package.
5. Use Keywords
I used a few selected keywords throughout the website to optimize each page. Don’t overuse your keywords while writing posts and pages, but make sure to add your fair share of keywords in strategic locations.
All About the Sign-Up Form
Every great niche website better have a Aweber sign-up form. It’s absolutely a necessity to capture email addresses. Don’t leave home without it. A good formula to go by is every person on your list resembles $1 buck a month. So if you have 500 people on your list you can expect to make roughly $500 bucks a month.
These simple techniques got my client to position number 3 in Google. Not so bad when you are selling Poop in a bag.
